Starting MEC in 1987, when electric flight was just beginning to be practical from a business standpoint, we developed and manufactured our own speed controller to go with our modified motors. Existing gearboxes were not practical for the modified motor power, giving us the impetus to design and build our own unit. This device became the SuperBox.
Since there were very few models set up for electric flight, we designed three models to fill that need. They were the "Incredible Stick", "Psycho Max", and the "Pure Wing". Two of which had nearly unlimited vertical climb on eight cells. Unfortunately we were years ahead of the trend and few people seemed interested in that kind of performance.
In order to produce the highest power batteries possible we began to solder cells "end to end" as had others. Finding it difficult to repair battery packs that were soldered "end to end" brought about the creation and evolution of the patented "Solderless Power Tube". This gave us more power than commercial packs while allowing for easy repairs. The SuperBox, MonsterBox, and Solderless Power Tube are now being used around the world. Next on the horizon will be the MiniBox, expected in early June, 2005. Perfect for Park Flyers.
MEC then designed the Turbo 10 Plus, and GT motors, innovating the large commutator, and large brushes. After many years, other manufacturers have just begun to use these features in their motors. Keeping up with the times, we have discontinued our brushed motors as we believe that the future of electrics lies with brushless motors.
The goal of our company has always been to advance the hobby to the point where we could be competitive with most engine-powered models. This has now been achieved in most instances. One of our goals is to exceed the performance of the internal combustion engine! We are doing just that. In some instances we are now exceeding the performance of the internal combustion engine.
The final, and probably the most important goal, is to have as much fun as possible (while still pressing the internal combustion engine), and to continue to provide our customers with the best products and services. Everything we offer, we have tested, approved, and use ourselves. We appreciate and value each of our customers, and are grateful for their continuing loyalty and support.
Best regards,
R.K. "Pete" Peterson & Elene Kellogg
